About the Business
Bixby Chocolate is an award-winning, woman-founded chocolate company and Maine’s first bean-to-bar chocolate maker. From our factory in Rockland, Maine, we craft distinctive chocolates and confections that pair exceptional chocolate with bold flavors, playful ideas, and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Our products are enjoyed by chocolate lovers and sold through specialty and national retailers across the country. We exist to push the boundaries of American craft chocolate—creating memorable, delicious products while supporting Maine manufacturing, innovation, and a more sustainable chocolate industry.
Kate McAleer
I’m Kate McAleer, founder and CEO of Bixby Chocolate, Maine’s first bean-to-bar chocolate company. I founded Bixby in 2011 with a passion for creating delicious, innovative chocolate using thoughtfully sourced ingredients. What began as an entrepreneurial idea has grown into an award-winning specialty food company manufacturing chocolate from cacao bean to finished product in Rockland, Maine.
My journey has taught me the importance of perseverance, creativity, and adaptability. From navigating COVID and dramatic increases in cacao costs to scaling production and building national retail partnerships, every challenge has pushed me to become a stronger entrepreneur. Today, I’m focused on growing Bixby into a nationally recognized specialty chocolate brand while continuing to innovate, manufacture in Maine, and create products that surprise and delight consumers.
