About the Business

Cha Community is a boba tea cafe small business based in Waco, Texas with a mission of bridging cultures & creating community through premium boba tea, pan-fried dumplings & fast-casual Taiwanese and Chinese style food. In communities of less than 3% Asian, Cha Community exists to cultivate spaces of belonging through Asian foods & drinks. At Cha Community, guests can find house-made dumplings, boba tea made with real milk & loose leaf tea (never artificial powders), matcha, drinks, & a variety of fast-casual Asian food options.

Cha Community operates in 3 storefront cafes located in downtown Waco, 8th Street Waco, & downtown Temple, Texas. Outside of the cafes, Cha also provides catering & event services through 2 food trucks & regularly pop-ups at the Waco Downtown Farmers Market.

Jaja Chen

Jaja Chen is a 2nd generation Taiwanese American based in Waco, Texas with a background in clinical social work. As a trauma therapist & clinical social worker in Texas, Jaja is passionate about trauma-sensitive care & providing EMDR therapy to clients through private practice. In addition to her therapy work, Jaja is an EMDRIA approved consultant & LCSW-Supervisor. Jaja & her husband Devin Li co-own Cha Community boba tea cafes in Waco & Temple, Texas. Drawing from their cultural roots from Taiwan and China, Cha Community's mission is to bridge culture & create community through premium boba tea, pan-fried dumplings, & fast-casual Chinese & Taiwanese food.

Cha Community started up 2018 at the Waco Downtown Farmers Market as a pop-up tent & has grown to 3 physical cafes & 2 food trucks with a vibrant team in Waco and Temple, Texas. Since 2023, Jaja co-founded Asian Leaders Network (ALN) non-profit organization in Waco, Texas alongside fellow Asian leaders. ALN's vision is to co-create Asian community, culture, & arts through annual Diwali celebration & Lunar New Year festivals alongside cultural events, networking mixers, panels, & workshops to cultivate belonging & spaces of connection for Asian leaders and artists.
