Starting a Business

The best advice I’ve received is…

As cliché as it sounds, when I was young, my mom told me I could do anything I wanted. She always said, “I can’t do it for you, but you can be anything you set your mind to, whether it be a mechanic or a ballerina.” She always told me any profession is good enough for me. You must have the passion and the belief that you will succeed, and no matter what, you will. So when I first started and people told me curry and chocolate sounded disgusting I said, “just watch.”

When starting a company you must…

Understand the niche of your industry. Don’t be scared of failure. If you create from the heart, inspiration and money will follow.

Advice I would give an entrepreneur…

Be very mindful of who you choose as a business partner(s). Finding a good yin to your yang is key. Work with people you admire and trust and who bring a needed skill set to the business that is different from your own. It has to be a true partnership or it will not work.

What I am working on now…

I am working on opening a new concept Vosges Haut-Chocolat Elixir Cafe at the CAA Hotel in Chicago and on my diffusion chocolate brand, Wild Ophelia, which empowers American female entrepreneurs.

My morning routine is…

I normally wake up around 3 a.m. and make myself a matcha morning tea. At that hour I am able to collect my thoughts, meditate and prepare for the day. I believe how you start your morning sets the tone for the day so it is important for me to have some quiet, alone time.

My Favorite App Is…

Instacart – No grocery shopping!

I love what I do because…

I get to work with chocolate every day and create new experiences that are unexpected.

Chocolate is…

The most magical food in the gastronomic dictionary. Just say the word and people gasp.
