We were inspired to start Mixtroz because…

AA:Through our expertise in Human Resources and Event Production, we saw a problem—and cared the most about solving it!

The best part about working together…

KS: We are each other’s wing woman, partner-in-crime and spirit animal! The best part is that we no longer have to make a call to update one another because we are right next to each other—through all the ups and downs of startup life.

We’re making networking better by…

KS: Using technology to improve the world’s oldest art form: face-to-face connections. With Mixtroz, a person launches the app, completes a profile in less than three minutes, and is then guided to real people (not just profiles) for curated group networking, while the event hosts learn from the custom data set that is collected.

We’re using technology to improve the world’s oldest art form: face-to-face connection.

How we broke into the tech industry…

AA: Using bulldozers, jackhammers and wrecking balls to knock down each and every door that was closed along the way.

Our top fundraising tips…

KS: Don’t stay where the community doesn’t understand, support you and feel you. We tried for three years to grow our business and raise funding in Nashville but it wasn’t working for us. We took our talents 175 miles down the road to Birmingham where we grew our business and raised over $1 million in seed funding!

How we encourage each other to #EmbraceAmbition…

AA: Early on in what would become a long, arduous startup journey my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She immediately underwent surgery and six weeks of daily radiation while never missing a beat with the business. It was during this time that I became a full-time founder—with a partner like Kerry you have to make the decision to be all in or get out. Mixtroz stands today because of my Mom’s grace, grit and determination to #EmbraceAmbition.

This Mother’s Day we’ll be…

KS: Reflecting on last Mother’s Day when we won the Steve Case and Revolution Fund’s Rise of the Rest pitch competition in Birmingham! The pitch competition showcased startups outside of traditional hubs like Silicon Valley. We secured a $100K investment and were told by Steve Case that we stood out not only because of our product, but also our team dynamic!
