Pisqueya
First generation, women-owned Latin food company, celebrating flavors from the Caribbean.
About the Business
Born in New York City and rooted in Dominican heritage, Pisqueya is a first-generation, woman-owned Latin food brand founded by Maritza Abreu and inspired by the culinary traditions of her family’s Brooklyn restaurant, Puerto Viejo, the oldest Dominican restaurant in NYC. Their clean-label sauces and seasonings bring bold Caribbean sabor to everyday meals with real ingredients, including passion fruit, pink guava, peppers and oregano sourced from regenerative farms in the Caribbean. Pisqueya serves people who want to eat clean without sacrificing flavor, helping home cooks elevate everyday meals with vibrant, culturally rooted taste while bringing greater representation to Dominican and Caribbean flavors.
Maritza Abreu
Maritza Abreu, Founder & CEO of Pisqueya, is a first-generation Dominican-American, born and raised in New York City. She grew up immersed in the flavors, traditions and entrepreneurial spirit of her family’s restaurant, Puerto Viejo. After building a career in corporate finance, Maritza took a leap of faith in 2018 and began bottling the family hot sauce recipes she grew up with. What started as a way to preserve her family’s culinary legacy, grew into a bigger mission: to bring greater visibility to the Latin Caribbean flavors and stories Maritza rarely saw represented on grocery shelves. Through Pisqueya, Maritza shares flavors deeply rooted in culture, while blending tradition with innovation to create something fresh and unexpected.
