About the Business

Benny's Eyewear is a handmade eyewear brand founded in 2024 by Susan Berryman, and named after Ben Franklin, an early champion of practical eyewear. It serves people who, like its founder, couldn't find reading glasses that were both well-made and fashionable, stuck between cheap drugstore pairs and pricey designer frames. Benny's fills that gap with reading glasses handmade in Italy using traditional acetate-cutting and hand-polishing techniques, built on the belief that eyewear shouldn't be disposable. The brand has since expanded into handmade Italian sunglasses, bringing the same craftsmanship and sustainable production to frames built for the sun. Benny's sells directly to customers online and wholesales to luxury boutiques.

Susan Berryman

Susan Berryman spent years as V.P. of Marketing for designer eyewear retailer SEE Inc. before she went looking for her own reading glasses and found nothing between cheap drugstore pairs and expensive designer ones. She launched Benny's Eyewear in October 2024, the only ready-made reading glasses brand handmade in Italy, after personally visiting the artisans crafting the frames. What began with local pop-ups has grown into a brand sold online and in boutiques, now expanding into handmade Italian sunglasses and wholesale partnerships with luxury retailers. In 2025, Benny's announced a collaboration with actress Selma Blair, who became a fan of the brand and approached the company to partner. Berryman, based in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, joined the Tory Burch Foundation Fellows Program in 2025 to focus on wholesale expansion, building brand awareness, finance and strategy.
